What is an NFT?Put simply, NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are unique, digital items with proof of ownership created (or “minted”) and stored on a blockchain. No two are the same. These can be digital art, videos, in-game items, tickets to events, ownership records for physical assets, and so much more. These tokens are verifiably unique and are not interchangeable, allowing digital ownership to exist in much the same way physical ownership does.

What does it mean to be “minted”?“Minting” an NFT refers to the creation of an NFT and its recordation on a blockchain for the first time. When something is minted on the blockchain, the token and all of its attributes are stored there permanently. This means an NFT can be purchased, sold, gifted, etc. and its history (and value) will be forever recorded on the blockchain, allowing true ownership.

How do you get an NFT?NFTs can be bought and sold in marketplaces like OpenSea, Rarible, and Bitski, to name a few. The primary currency used is Ether on the Ethereum blockchain, and you’ll need to set up a digital wallet to get started. However, some marketplaces like Bitski allow you to make purchases with a credit card. You can find NFTs created by Tafi and Daz 3D here:

What do I need to buy an NFT?In order to buy an NFT, you’ll first need to get yourself a digital wallet. MetaMask is currently the most popular option in the NFT space and plays nicely with major marketplaces. You can get MetaMask as an iOS or Android app, or as a web browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Brave. Create a new account and a secure password (passwords created in MetaMask apps are device-specific). You will then be assigned a random collection of 12 words, called a wallet seed phrase. Be sure to copy these words and keep them somewhere safe. If you lose your password, your seed phrase will be the only way to recover your wallet. And if you lose your seed phrase, you may be locked out forever. Never share your wallet seed phrase with anyone for any reason! Get started with MetaMask here: https://metamask.io/

What are gas fees?“Gas” is the fuel that allows the Ethereum network to operate. Gas fees are transaction fees paid to miners on a blockchain protocol to have their transactions included in the block. These gas fees exist because each transaction requires computational resources to execute. They also prevent bad actors from spamming the network. These fees vary depending on supply and demand. When there’s more demand for transactions, miners can choose to include transactions that pay more, compelling users to pay higher gas fees for faster transaction processing. You can learn more about gas fees and planned initiatives to reduce these fees here: https://ethereum.org/en/developers/docs/gas/#why-do-gas-fees-exist
